I'm a writer and educator who is passionate about poetry, mindfulness, philosophy, and the arts. My teaching philosophy is rooted in experiential learning.
Outside of school, I serve as the Senior Poetry Editor of Bridge Eight Press. In 2018, my audio chapbook Girls was released by EAT Poetry. My first two years of teaching took place in southern Spain, where I taught language, social studies, business, and ethics at IES Jose Maria Infantes, a public secondary school for the arts.
It's my fourth year teaching Creative Writing at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. I teach Freshman and Sophomore Creative Writing core classes (fiction and poetry), Critical Theory, and Elements of Style (creative nonfiction). I have also taught Plays & Playwrights. In 2018, I was teacher of the week on First Coast News. Along with the other two Creative Writing teachers, I co-direct the Douglas Anderson Writers' Festival.
I hold an MFA in Writing from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where I graduated as a member of Phi Kappa Phi academic honors society with a 4.0 GPA. At Randolph College, I earned a BA in English with a Creative Writing emphasis. I graduated with honors and as a member of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society. I've also completed the Educator Preparation Institute at the University of North Florida and hold my professional certificate with the Florida Department of Education. Most recently, I received the Vaclav Havel scholarship to attend the month-long Prague Summer Program for Writers during the summer of 2018. That summer, I also spent a week studying book art and mixed media at the Maine College of Art's Feed Your Soul Program.
Lately, I've been enjoying studying collage and froissage, fumbling around in a beginner ballet class, and trying to keep my house plants alive.
